The Hungarian-Irish Theatre is an International Troupe Based in Dublin
We are a group of artists interested in the field of performing art, music and literature.
We work as a non-profit group. All of our members take part in different phases and fields of the creative projects we work on. They prepare for stage performances in their free time.
Our Mission
Based in the heart of the multicultural Irish capital, our mission is to create a platform for artists from all nations, where they can nurture and express their talent while creating engaging, entertaining and culturally diverse theatre performances for all audiences.
We also organise and deliver theatre shows to Hungarian communities living in Europe and around the world.
We offer various programmes for Hungarian speaking children living in Ireland. Through these, they can nurture their cultural and language heritage, by participating in theatre workshops, and actively attending fun but meaningful shows.
The Hungarian-Irish Theatre was founded by Kata Varnyu in June 2016, when the Hungarian Embassy in Dublin asked for her help with organising a short English language performance for Bloomsday. According to the Joycean tradition, people of Dublin pay their tribute to James Joyce’s Ulysses every year. The world-famous novel contains numerous Hungarian references.
Since 2016, our constantly growing team has been putting many performances together for adults and children as well. Our repertoire includes plays both in Hungarian and English, most of them were written by our team members.
